Storyline: After a span of 8 years, Rakesh Mahadkar again terrorises Mumbai. It’s another serial killer drama which is more brutal and dangerous with the same uses of a smiley mask as his sign.

Ek Villain Returns is based on two men caught in a one-sided love affair. The paths they choose to fulfill their love stories decides as to the hero or the villian of the film.

Plus Points

1) Film has a franchise value that serves as a spiritual successor to the 2014 film "Ek Villain" which was a huge success. Wish the same could have been said about the sequel. Film is made with a budget of ₹80 crores but doesn’t look like a penny worth. It’s a sheet waste of time, money and energy even to think about watching this nonsensical movie.

2) Film is technically polished. Photography, locations & background sound are of good standards.

3) Music: The song “Galliyan Returns” was recreated sung by Ankit Tiwari which is pretty catchy.

Minus Points

1) Acting: It’s sad to see how our bollywood stars have dropped to such low levels that they’ve started to sign films left right and centre only for money with no subject.

John Abraham is a disappointment. He’s expressionless throughout inspite his 20 years experience in Bollywood.

Arjun Kapoor has not yet reached a stage where he has much choice to sign movies, so he has to take up whatever comes his way. He lived upto the zero expectations we have from him.

Both the leading ladies (Disha patani and Tara Sutaria) are not any good than fashion icons with loud make-ups Zero in acting Producers coughed up more than ₹45 crores on these non-performers. What a criminal waste!

Three cheers to Mohit Suri for assembling such a disastrous star-cast and making a fool out of the two experienced makers (Balaji & T-series). All the actors need to learn the ABCD of acting.

2) Direction (Mohit Suri): After "Ek Villian", one expected a better sequel. But the audience would be disappointed as there is no head or tail of the movie. Direction has no grip with many loose ends. Climax is lame too. The thrill created in the mind of the audience while watching a suspense movie is absent.

3) Editing (Devendera Murdeshwar) is pathetic. Inspite of the duration being short, viewers would consider it as a mistake for booking the tickets with their time.

4) Story is mindless. Any sensible producer/ director would have thrown this story in the dustbin. Screenplay is confusing from the first till the last frame. It doesn’t create any excitement. Dialogues are routine. It’s a boring drama!

5) No chartbusters song.

Box Office Verdict

It's high time to certify films from the censor board if the film is mentally safe for the audience.

With the kind of film releasing week after week, it’s difficult as to who should be given the award for the greatest disaster.

If this continues for long, it will be troublesome for Bollywood. Audience is smart enough when it comes to rightfully spending their money and time. With OTT around, nobody is bothered to spend time for such lame content.

Bollywood has entered a bad phase since January 2022 with only two hit films i.e The Kashmir Files & Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2. It seriously needs to buck up with audience’s expectations and tough competition from Hollywood & South too.

May the soul of this film rest in peace. Makers please ensure to keep an ambulance with mental doctors at each multiplex.
