He contemplates of ending his life when faith and hope come knocking on his in the form of a young seven year old girl child Mishti. Rameshwar realises that life is not about giving up. He decides to live life again when she enters his life.
Story: The film is told in three different phases. An accountant Rameshwar (Jackie Shroff), is saddened by his mother’s death. He grapples with life and loneliness and then decides that he will end his life one day. His attempts fail and then suddenly a seven year old girl Mishti (Saniya Anklesaria) enters his life and gives him a lot of joy. She is constantly relocating with her aunt Reema (Suneeta Sen Gupta), her selfish father wants to take her away but Rameshwar thwarts all his plans. Their bonding grows strong and Mishti then marries a man of her choice and flies away to Chicago. Rameshwar once again becomes lonely. They keep in touch through phone calls and emails; however Mishti’s communication slowly starts dwindling. Rameshwar does not know how while his time now. Does he find another ray of hope. What keeps him going in life is what forms the crux of the movie.
Direction: Anant Mahadevan has always given the audiences hope and optimism through most of his movies. Though he has come up with a story of a retired man, Anant Mahadevan’s story of Life is so touching that it will impress you from the start. He has left no place for melodrama here. The young girl Misti is so exuberant and brings a breath of fresh air when she makes her appearance on screen. His choice of artistes is so true to the characters in his story.
Writer: Sujit Sen has presented a very well told mature story of a man and a young girl and shown their growth in life in three different phases. As the girl grows so does his character of the accountant turn old. The little girl is abandoned by her parents but she finds support in the form of an retired man and the highs and lows of their relationship. Neither one of the character overlaps the other. There is a thin line of friendship where no one takes advantage of one another and it has been maintain through out the film.
Performance: Both child actors Saniya and Ananya are excellent in the film. They exactly know when to pause or when to give the right cues to the actor opposite. Jackie Shroff as Rameshwar is exceptionally brilliant. As he ages through the film he also ages in his acting skills. Suneeta Sen Gupta adds her own charm to the role of an aunt.
Cinematography and Music: Cinematographer Alphonse Roy has filled his colours on the canvas of the film in various hues. He has tremendously done justice to the scenic locales of Panchgani and Mahableshwar around. Abhishek Ray’s music adds to the its own flavor to this poignant story.
Box Office Verdict: A movie that is a great watch on a weekend. After seeing all the action kind of stories this comes as a refreshing change. Do not miss this movie over the weekend.
