It’s a biographical drama based on Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan as a martyr during 26/11. It is a thrilling and gripping film which instills patriotism.
South actor Adivi Sesh as the war hero makes his bollywood debut with this bilingual film which has been shot simultaneously in Telugu and Hindi.
Plus points
1) Acting of Adivi Sesh as Major is superbly portrayed. His body language and mannerism is perfect. Adivi has acted excellently right from his childhood till he sacrifices his life for the country. He is the soul of the film!
Saiee Manjrekar looks gorgeous. She has delivered a decent performance.
Prakash Raj and Revathi as Major’s parents are outstanding. They both have performed brilliantly in all emotional scenes especially in the climax. Shobhitha Dhulipala too, is quite effective.
2) Director (Sashi Kiran Tikka) has handled the subject superbly. He has done full justice to the story of 26/11 attack.
3) Producer and Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu (under the banner G . Mahesh Babu Entertainment) for the first time didn’t feature himself in the main lead. Hats-off to Mahesh babu for making this film.
4) Action (Naba) scenes are beautifully captured. It’s a perfect blend of light hearted movements, romance and music.
5) Film is great in all technical standards, locations, costumes and background score.
6) Major is a fast paced film which will keep you engaged in the first half. Climax will make you teary.
7. Story , screenplay and dialogues.
Story and screenplay in the first is quite impressive however routine in the second half .
Dialogues at places are very good.
Minus points
1) 26/11 as a subject is not new and has been seen by the viewers in many films like Mumbai Diaries 26/11, The attack of 26/11 etc.
2) Second half is weak. It concentrates only on action happening inside the Taj Hotel, again seen numerous times.
3. Film lacks the desired impact in terms of emotions and patriotic feeling.
4. Too many cinematic liberties are taken by the director.
5. At least one hit patriotic song was needed like an energy shot to the audience.
6. Editing could’ve been sharper, especially in the second half.
Box office
The film has been well promoted on Pan India level. Many free shows were organised for the common man in the last 10 days but advance booking of the film is very poor.
It may do good business in Andhra pradesh and telangana but it's unlikely that it will be "Major" hit in Hindi belt.
