Saw the presence of Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Ayan Mukerji, Debu Mukerji, Sumona Chakraborty, Prashant Virender Sharma and Shrabani Mukherjee.
The much celebrated Kali Pooja coincides with the Diwali Festival. Gusto and enthusiasm for Kali Puja is same as seen for Diwali in rest of India. The only apparent difference one can see is that while rest of India worships Goddess Lakshmi on this day, Goddess Kali is the chief deity for the occasion in Bengali tradition.
The celebrations at North Bombay Sarbojanin Durga Puja Samiti that began in the wee hours of Thursday comprised the puja, pushpanjali and the traditional Bengali bhog of khichudi, labda, bhaja, chatni, paayesh, mishti etc. The ritual took place at night to the accompaniment of tantric mantra recitations.
As Kali is the fiercest form of Shakti, the items used in her worship are also different. Red hibiscus, sweets, rice, lentils, fish and meat are placed as offerings. Devotees observe fast and conduct all rituals from night until dawn. Those who do puja at home do not have to follow very strict rituals, though.
Members of North Bombay Sarbojanin Durga Puja Samiti said "Everyone participates in the Kali puja and we believe that it gives shakti (power) to women to go ahead and live their life with full energy. We serve rounds of tea for everyone to stay awake. We pray for the betterment of everyone and at the end of the puja, we serve the prasad which is a pure vegetarian fare of khichdi, puri, subzi and sweets"
