Story
A gripping tale of an investigation dragging a family into it. Will Vijay Salgaonkar be able to protect his family this time? This film is a remake of Malayalam film Drishyam 2 ( Feb, 2021).
Plus points
1) Acting
Biggest plus point of film is its franchise value (Drishyam 1) which was released in 2015. It was a hit!
Ajay Devgn is superb and delivered a flawless performance. Well supported by Shriya Saran as his wife, his daughters Ishita Dutta and Mrunal Jadhav. Tabu is quite effective. Akshaye Khanna is a surprise package. In fact, he overshadows Ajay Devgn.
2) Direction
Director (Abhishek Pathak) has done a good job despite copying frame to frame from Malayalam Drishyam 2 (Feb, 2021). He however, failed to give his own creativity.
3) Story, Screenplay and Dialogues
Story is very good. It’s perfect sequel. Confrontation scenes between Akshay Khanna & Ajay Devgn are interesting and well executed.
Screenplay has many unexpected turns and twists in the second half which keeps the audience hooked till the end.
Dialogues are impactful. Some are hard hitting & clap worthy too ( The actual credit should go to the original writer/ Director ( Jeetu Joseph) of Malayalam film.
4) Editing is perfect, especially in the second half.
5) Production value is of good standards in the term of photography, costumes, Goa locations, background scores etc.
6) Film is a crime thriller which has suspense, drama, thrill, action and all the ingredients which audience wish to see in a crime film.
All the characters who were shown 7 years before in Drishyam 1 are given due importance in the sequel. It is the nostalgia factor that works in the favour of Drishyam 2.
Minus points
1) Error in the scripts
a) How come Ajay Devgn who is super smart, unable to detect the action of his couple neighbour?
b) When Ajay Devgn confesses the crime in the police station, why is he not immediately arrested?
c)Too many cinematic liberties have been taken.
d) Ajay Devgn so called close friendship with the forensic guy: How did he know that the guy will remain on the post even after so many years since the crime & would be useful?
e) Ajay's friendship with a top writer/ producer (Saurabh Shukla) to convince him to produce a film.
f) Police department’s stupid enquiry with the local guys after 7 years of the incident to find out the movement of Ajay Devgn on 2 October, 2014.
g) Court room drama should have been shot more effectively especially considering the fact that a person has been charged with murder.
h) After the murder of Tabu's son, nobody wants to marry Ajay Devgn's daughter Ishita. Entire family has got the bad name and labelled as a criminal. Why doesn't Ajay Devgn leave Goa and settle elsewhere for the sake of the family?
2) Not a single chart buster song.
3) Drishyam 2 Malayalam (2021) is already on the OTT platform. Many will not be interested to see Drishyam 2 (Hindi).
There were so many remake movies of the south film's in the recent time like Jersey, Vikram Veda, Hit :The First Case, Cuttputlli, Mili etc in which audience did not show much interest.
Box office Verdict
Film is a Paisa Vasool experience. Considering that the film has got second highest advance booking of 2022, first day collections are likely to be in double digits.
If the audience patronize the film like part 1, entry of this into 100 crore club cannot be ruled out.
As per trade analyist Mr Amod Mehra (as he did on 2nd Oct 2014) goes on to say that, “Vijay Salgaonkar once again saves his family and the film industry. Drishyam 2 is an engaging, engrossing and most importantly, an entertaining thriller that glues you to your seats. A Sure-shot Winner!”
