1) Helen (2019) ( Malyalam)
Overview:
A woman (Janhvi Kapoor) is stuck in a freezer fighting to stay alive. 'Mili' is the official Hindi remake of the Malayalam thriller 'Helen'. Film is based on a true incident.
Plus Points
1) Good thought about someone getting trapped in the mall with no equipment available to rescue. It exposes the corrupt police department working in our society.
2) Production values are appropriate.
Minus points:
1) Janhvi Kapoor does an average job. She is okayish in the first half but carries a single expression in the remaining half. She is not versatile like her mother Sridevi.
Sunny Kaushal looks like a junior artist .He must have accepted the film because of Boney Kapoor's daughter Janhvi Kapoor.
Manoj Pahwa is decent and Sanjay Suri impresses (though in a smaller role).
2) Direction
He is same director who directed the original Malayalam film. First half is slow-paced and lacks entertainment. Second half covers the rescue operation which is picturised without any twists or turns. It lacks the thrill and doesn't hold the viewers attention.
3) Story, Screenplay and Dialogues
Thin story line. Screenplay doesn't work in the second half and falls flat. Dialogues are pretty ordinary.
4) In today's time, audience don't prefer woman oriented film. Earlier films like Dhakad, Shabbas Mithu, Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl, Rashmi Rocket got bombed at the box office.
Box Office Verdict
Film will widely go unnoticed. Many have already seen the Malayalam version on OTT. However, it has been taken down now for the time being to favor Mili but it's of no use.
Why suddenly more than half a dozen of films have been releasing every week? Amod Mehra, trade analyst, answers, “The proposal makers made these films with the sole aim of premiering them directly on OTT and pocketing huge profits. But OTT platforms got wiser and decided to only buy the films after seeing their Box Office results and Janta Janardhan has given their verdict by 'social distancing' from these half baked projects.
