Verdict: It’s A Must Watch Film And Will Be Applauded!

Vijayan Music : Illayaraja Director Rajkumar Hirani had touched upon Gandhiji’s principles in his film Lage Raho Munnabhai. Where he had shown how Gandhiji would have tackled problems in the modern day India in a comic manner. Well writer, director A. Balakrishnan’s film Welcome Back Gandhi also known as Mudhalvar Mahatma in Tamil is and directed by A. Balakrishnan is also a take on Gandhiji’s principles and philosophies. The Tamil version was released on 30th January 2012. Filming for Welcome Back Gandhi took place over a 40-day period in Chennai during 2012 and was produced on a budget of ₹3 crore.
Story: The film is set in today’s times and explores the thought of how Gandhiji would have reacted if he ever happened to visit India again. It also deals with what would happen if Gandhi met Jinnah today. A. Kanagaraj essays the role of Mahatma Gandhi, Anupam Kher plays a chief minister who is non corrupt and a modest politician. Actor Mudhalvan Bakthi plays corrupt minister in the movie. The film also touches upon the sensitive Ayodhya dispute and Ram Mandir issue.
Acting: The actors are superb in their own way. Not many know about A. Kanagaraj but he is brilliant as Mahatma Gandhi and so is actor Mudhalvan Bakthi. Anupam Kher adds his own touch to the film.
Music: The Maestro Illayaraja is back with his heart rendering melodies.
Cinematography by J. Mohan Subu is exceptionally great. What more can one say when we have Illayaraja at the helm.
Box Office Verdict: It’s a must watch film over the weekend. It must be applauded for proving that Mahatma Gandhi’s principles are still alive in every heart of the viewers of the nation.
