A touching tale of a young soldier, Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan. The film is a biopic made on the Major when he battled against the terrorist attacks in Mumbai on 26/11 and gave up his life at the young age of 31 in 2008. The film also depicts the sacrifice of a lonely wife and old parents who await the return of their son not knowing whether he will return home or not as he fought against the terrorists on the fateful night of 26/11. The film is not just about the attacks but his life and his dedication towards the country and how he had to convince his parents that this is what he was born for. The film was shot simultaneously in Telugu and Hindi, and later dubbed in Malayalam.
Story: Sandeep Unnikrishnan is born in a simple middle class South Indian family. He is fascinated with the uniform and the soldiers way of life. As he begins schooling he falls in love with his classmate Isha (Saiee Manjrekar) who is also as simple as him. They continue to study and ultimately get married. The first half depicts his romantic life.
The second half the action takes over. Many films have already depicted the terrorist attacks at the Taj Mahal Hotel on that fateful night. Here director Shashi Kiran Tikka and Adivi Sesh who have written the story and screenplay have focused on him as an NSG Commander and who takes over to fight the terrorists alone in the hotel not caring for his life and putting himself before the country.
The film is not without his flaws though. Abburi Ravi’s dialogues are so so. Sricharan’s music is not very lilting. Though the song Isha has been rendered and shot well. Adivi Sesh has put his life time for the role and has managed to scrape through to give his best. Sai Manjrekar could have put in more efforts as the wife of a soldier. She yet has to go a long way as far as emotions are concerned. Shobhitha Dhulipala makes her mark felt in the bit role, so do Murli Sharma and Anish Kuruvilla. Prakash Raj and Revathi, who play Sandeep’s parents, as usual are brilliant in their performances.
The script could have been taut but tends to drag at many places. Even the army training scenes could have been better. The attacks on the hotel have already been depicted in many movies hence the director should have given it more importance.
Box office: However the film is a tribute to the martyr and a befitting one hence it is a must see for all. Do not miss this one at the theaters this weekend.
