Heartthrob Of "Aashiqui" Anu Aggarwal Feels It’s Time We Normalise Disability
Actress Anu Aggarwal, who met with a major accident a few years ago, feels strongly for people with disabilities. Speaking on this topic, she says, "It’s time we normalise disability by referring to the disabled as ‘disabled’. I have been there and I know the need to be looked at as ‘normal’ is the highest and also speeds up recovery.”
She adds, "So while awareness needs to be developed where the disabled accept their problem the world has to accept people with it. Anu Aggarwal Foundation began with the idea of lightening inner joy in those challenged in any way. Kriti Film Club and we make film Projects, in collaboration with the Department of Special Education, SNDT Women's University. Recently we hosted film screenings and panel discussions on Disability, Accessibility and Filmmaking. I was invited as the special guest for the event. We Make Films by Dr. Shewta Ghosh and I didn't See You There by Reid Davenport, were screened.
It was followed by deep and thought-provoking discussions on the life and experiences of persons with disability. It centered around the role films can play in creating awareness about their life and making the society more acceptable towards them.”
The panel had noted filmmakers, most of them from the disabled community, sharing their inspiring reflections and experiences.
They shared accounts of their trials, challenges and victories.
The attendees were very happy to hear Anu share her experiences after her near-fatal accident and how she overcame the problems.
